Leviathan

Leviathan by Thomas Feuerstein is composed of over ten thousand crystals. The artwork resembles the species Siphonophora (colonial jellyfish), which consist of countless individual organisms. The Italian political theorist Antonio Negri explains: “A human being on their own is nothing without the community […].” The same can be said of the crystal – its magic unfolds only in union with others.

Thomas Feuerstein, the artist behind the sculpture Leviathan, was born in 1968 in Innsbruck and studied art history and philosophy. He is a media and conceptual artist, and his works are represented, among others, in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna (mumok).
