Conveyor-belt

by Thomas Bayrle

Thomas Bayrle has been exploring the motif of the autobahn since the 1980s. In his sculptures, loops of model-like road formations are laid adjacent to, on top of, and opposite each other, using the technique of “looping,” in other words constant repetition of the same motif.

Bayrle was born in 1937 in Berlin and studied at the Offenbach College of the Applied Arts in Offenbach. He lives and works in Frankfurt/Main, where he is a professor at the renowned Städel School, which is part of the famous Städel Museum. His works are shown around the world in individual and group exhibitions, most recently in France, Germany, and Switzerland.
