Humility

by Barry Flanagan

The motif of the hare who has human features is characteristic for the British artist Barry Flanagan. In the garden of Swarovski Kristallwelten (Swarovski Crystal Worlds), he has hares with dowsing rods looking for water – an element that is closely associated with Swarovski and the production of crystal.

Barry Flanagan was born in 1941 in Prestalyn, Wales, and studied at the St. Martin’s School of Art in London, where he later taught as well. He is considered one of the most famous representatives of "pataphysics,” the "science" of imaginary solutions that parodies modern science. In 1982, he represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale. Flanagan died in 2009.
