Hans Magnus Enzensberger, born 1929 in the Allgäu region, is a writer, essayist, author of radio plays, publisher, translator, and editor – and also one of the most important German poets after World War II. He became famous particularly due to his critical essays. Even today, Enzensberger remains a highly respected voice in Germany’s political discourse; he has received many awards for his discerning opinions, including the Georg Büchner Award, the Spanish Prince of Asturias Award, and the Danish Sonning Award.
