THE CRYSTAL DOME

The Crystal Dome is one-of-a-kind and considered the heart of Swarovski Kristallwelten (Swarovski Crystal Worlds). Its interior is modeled after visionary architect Sir Richard Buckminster Fuller’s (1895–1983) geodesic dome. Its design perfectly reflects the principle of geodesy by using a mathematical approximation of a sphere. The dome represents the curvature of the Earth by showing the shortest path between two points on a curved surface.

Geodesic domes are particularly stable in relation to the relatively small amount of material used to build them, which creates a lightweight supporting structure. The dome consists of 595 mirrors that create a special depth effect and give visitors the feeling of being inside a crystal. Eight of these are one-way mirrors that conceal fascinating objects from the Swarovski Corporate Archive.
